The Heptagon Ring represents a significant milestone in the evolution of my skills and creative process. It is the first piece in a full collection that also includes cuffs, and earrings.
The idea for this piece originated from a client who approached me at a market, asking if I could create a custom gold ring. He wanted a replica of a ring he had cherished for years, but it was deteriorating due to the poor-quality materials from which it was originally made.
After much trial and error, I successfully crafted a 14k gold version of the ring that met my standards. This was my first time creating a piece entirely out of gold, and I was incredibly proud of the result. The client, an art professor, was thrilled with the outcome and generously promoted my work on his social media channels. His endorsement led to a new commission from a friend of his, who requested an identical ring. Using my notes and photos from the first project, I crafted another ring, and once again, the client was extremely pleased with the result.
In both instances, I began by crafting the ring from round 14k gold wire, hammering and passing it through a rolling mill to achieve the desired shape and thickness. I then soldered the four pieces of wire together before meticulously filing them to create the seven faces and angles.
The Heptagon Ring is an updated version of this original design, refined through my experiences. For this iteration, I chose to cut the general shape from a single piece of metal rather than soldering multiple wires together. This approach makes the design structurally sound and allows the ring to be made in platinum, where avoiding soldering is preferable. After cutting the general outline, the process remains the same: filing to create the faces and angles, followed by sanding, tumbling, and polishing.
The Heptagon Ring is more than just a piece of jewelry; it’s a testament to my journey in mastering craftsmanship and pushing the boundaries of design. With its refined construction and enduring elegance, this ring stands as a symbol of my dedication to quality and innovation. The ring is available for custom orders in platinum, 18k gold, and silver, allowing clients to choose a version that resonates with their personal style.
